RN – Medical-Surgical Float Pool | Boston, MA

Position: Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical Float Pool
Shift: 12-hour rotating days/nights, with a combination of 8- and 12-hour shifts
Weekend: Every other weekend required
Holidays: Holiday coverage required, including major winter holidays
Call: No call required

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Travel RN for a Medical-Surgical Float Pool supporting a 600-bed facility with 15 Medical-Surgical units. The RN must be highly adaptable and comfortable floating across a variety of specialty units and caring for patients with varying diagnoses and acuity levels.

Unit & Patient Population

Travel RNs may be assigned across units specializing in:

• Neurology
• Cardiac
• Bariatric
• General Medicine
• General Surgery
• GYN/GU
• Hips & Joints
• Oncology
• Liver & Kidney Transplant
• Vascular

Patient Ratios: Approximately 4:1 on days to 6:1 on nights.

Assignments may be provided 2–3 weeks in advance, while some assignments may be given as little as 2 hours before the shift.

Schedule

• Rotating days/nights or day/evening shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Every 4-week schedule includes one week with one 12-hour shift and three 8-hour shifts
• Rotation within the same week may occur, but the facility attempts to minimize this and provides adequate time between day/evening and night rotations when possible.

Clinical Responsibilities & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring
• 12-lead EKGs
• Lasix drips
• Blood transfusions
• Administering nebulizer treatments
• Ventilators managed by Respiratory Therapy
• Basic computer and web-based application skills
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active Massachusetts RN License – Required at time of submission
• 3+ years of related RN experience – Required
• Prior Travel RN experience – Required
• Epic experience – Required
• CPR/BLS through AHA – Required
• ACLS through AHA – Required
• Level I Trauma experience – Required

• Teaching hospital and specialty-area experience preferred
