Shift Options: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM or 9:00 AM–5:30 PM
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Weekend: Minimum 1 weekend shift per contract
Trauma: Level III Trauma Center; Level II experience preferred
Charting: Cerner preferred

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse to provide Phase I post-anesthesia care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. This is a high-volume PACU caring for approximately 30 patients/day across a broad range of surgical cases. The RN must have strong pediatric and critical-care experience and be comfortable recovering complex surgical patients.

Surgical Experience

Experience recovering patients from the following is required:

• Orthopedics and total joints
• Neuro/Spine and craniotomy
• General surgery
• Urology
• GYN
• Dental procedures – adults and pediatrics
• Pediatric ENT, including tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy and ear tube procedures
• Bariatric, vascular, plastics, ophthalmology, podiatry, robotics, and other surgical cases

The facility performs all surgeries except cardiac, with a particularly heavy volume of orthopedic, general, GYN, neuro, urology, dental, and pediatric ENT cases.

Key Clinical Skills

• Phase I PACU recovery and post-anesthesia monitoring
• Pediatric patient management
• Airway assessment and care of ventilated patients
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition/management
• Arterial line, central line, PICC, and chest tube management
• Nerve block monitoring
• IV therapy, blood products, vasopressors, reversal agents, and emergency medications
• Conscious sedation, MAC, general, local, spinal, and nerve block recovery
• Pain and sedation assessment, including RASS
• Pre- and post-operative care, EKGs, wound vacs, and operative procedures
• Malignant hyperthermia protocol and emergency response

Requirements

• 2+ years of PACU experience preferred
• Strong pediatric PACU experience – Required
• Critical-care experience – Strongly preferred
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIH – Required
• Cerner experience preferred
• Level II Trauma experience preferred

Additional Information

• The unit has approximately 21 beds and provides interdisciplinary support from Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, Pharmacy, Rapid Response, and other services.
