Perform venipuncture and blood specimen collection for routine laboratory testing, diagnostic evaluations, and medical examinations.
Verify patient identity and laboratory orders before collecting specimens.
Accurately label, process, handle, and prepare blood specimens for transport to the appropriate laboratory.
Maintain accurate documentation of specimen collection, patient information, and related procedures in accordance with facility protocols.
Follow universal precautions, infection prevention guidelines, and proper sharps disposal procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked phlebotomy work area.
Inspect, clean, and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies.
Communicate professionally with healthcare providers, nursing staff, laboratory personnel, and correctional staff.
Explain blood collection procedures to patients and provide appropriate reassurance while maintaining professionalism and respect.
Follow CDCR institutional security procedures, including applicable movement restrictions, escort requirements, and established safety protocols.
Protect confidential patient health information in compliance with applicable privacy laws and healthcare policies.
Recognize and promptly report specimen collection complications, patient concerns, safety incidents, and procedural discrepancies to the appropriate healthcare personnel.
Assist with maintaining quality assurance standards and compliance with applicable clinical and institutional policies.

Certified Phlebotomist and American Heart Association BLS.
