Radiologic Technologist – BMC Radiology

Job Summary:
 

The Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic general radiographic procedures using various imaging equipment to assist physicians in diagnosing diseases and injuries. The role requires accurate image acquisition, appropriate patient assessment, safe contrast administration, and compliance with imaging protocols and radiation safety standards.
 

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform diagnostic radiographic procedures and process images according to departmental protocols and applicable standards.
• Review imaging orders, patient histories, laboratory results, and clinical information to ensure appropriate examinations.
• Administer IV, oral, and rectal contrast when indicated, including establishing IV access when necessary.
• Screen patients for pregnancy when applicable and respond appropriately to contrast-related adverse or allergic reactions.
• Evaluate positioning, technical factors, image alignment, and image quality.
• Transfer and verify images in PACS and provide relevant clinical information for radiologist interpretation.
• Send examinations for preliminary readings through web servers and email systems when required.
• Maintain imaging equipment, supplies, and an orderly work environment.
• Identify equipment malfunctions and report service needs promptly.
• Follow radiation safety, infection control, and patient safety procedures.
• Assist with training students and new staff as needed.
• Support other imaging areas during downtime and perform cross-trained modality duties when qualified and authorized.
• Meet departmental productivity and quality standards.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in a related field or a certificate in Radiologic Technology.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Current Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) Radiography License.
• ARRT certification in Radiography (R).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate patient flow, and exercise independent judgment.
• Positive attitude and willingness to assess and improve the work environment.
