Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to support a variety of surgical procedures in a community hospital setting. The ideal candidate will have strong operating room experience across multiple specialties, excellent knowledge of surgical instrumentation, and hands-on experience with the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system.

Important: First-time travelers are not accepted for this assignment. Candidates must hold the required NBSTSA certification.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years of perioperative Surgical Technologist experience.
• Current NBSTSA certification.
• BLS certification.
• Community hospital experience.
• Strong experience in orthopedic procedures, including total joint replacements, spine, and trauma.
• Experience in urology, GYN, uro-GYN, vascular, general surgery, neurosurgery/spine, and some ENT procedures.
• Required experience with the Da Vinci Xi surgical robot.
• Ability to work independently in a busy operating room environment.

Required Clinical Skills & Surgical Specialties

Orthopedics & Spine

• Total hip and total knee replacements.
• Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.
• Arthroscopy and fracture reduction.
• Spinal fusion, laminectomy, and discectomy.
• Carpal tunnel release.
• Orthopedic trauma procedures.

General & Vascular Surgery

• Appendectomy and cholecystectomy.
• Open and laparoscopic colon resection.
• Inguinal and umbilical hernia repair.
• Mastectomy and thyroidectomy.
• Carotid endarterectomy.
• Femoral-popliteal bypass graft.
• Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair experience preferred.

Gynecology & Uro-GYN

• Abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy.
• Anterior/posterior repair (colporrhaphy).
• Dilation and curettage (D&C).
• Laparoscopic gynecological procedures.
• Bilateral tubal ligation.
• Vulvectomy and tuboplasty.
• C-section experience preferred.

Urology

• Cystoscopy and ureteroscopy.
• Nephrectomy and prostatectomy.
• Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).
• Laparoscopic-assisted procedures.

Neurosurgery & ENT

• Anterior cervical fusion and cervical fusion.
• Lumbar fusion, kyphoplasty, and XLIF.
• Laminectomy and discectomy.
• Endoscopic sinus procedures.
• Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, tracheostomy, and radical neck dissection.

Robotic & Specialized Procedures

• Da Vinci Xi robotic surgery experience required.
• Robotic colorectal, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, and urologic procedures.
• Orthopedic robotic surgery and Mako Surgical System experience preferred.
• EVAR and TAVR experience preferred.
• PEG tube placement/exchange and selected plastic surgery procedures.

Core Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Maintain aseptic technique and a sterile field throughout procedures.
• Anticipate surgeons’ needs and provide appropriate instruments during surgery.
• Assist with patient positioning and maintain a safe surgical environment.
• Handle case carts, instruments, and surgical supplies efficiently.
• Support robotic and minimally invasive procedures.
• Follow infection prevention, safety, and hospital protocols.

Schedule & On-Call Requirements

• Regular Schedule: 4×10-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM.
• On-Call: Approximately one day per week and one full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) within a six-week schedule.
• Weekend Requirement: On-call coverage only.
• Block Scheduling: Required; confirm the specific block arrangement with the facility.
• Floating: Not required; the position will not float between units.
• 48-Hour Weeks: Not approved.
• Patient/Staffing Ratio: 1:1.

Ideal Candidate

An experienced, NBSTSA-certified Surgical Technologist with community hospital experience, broad multi-specialty OR expertise, and hands-on Da Vinci Xi robotic surgery experience. Candidates should be confident supporting orthopedic totals, spine and trauma, urology, GYN/uro-GYN, vascular, general surgery, neurosurgery/spine, and ENT cases.
