Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to support a wide range of surgical procedures in a community hospital setting. The ideal candidate will have strong operating room experience across multiple specialties, excellent knowledge of surgical instrumentation, and hands-on experience with the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system.

First-time travelers are accepted. Candidates must have current NBSTSA certification and relevant perioperative experience.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years of operating room/perioperative Surgical Technologist experience.
• Current NBSTSA certification.
• BLS certification.
• Community hospital experience.
• Strong experience in orthopedics (total joints, spine, and trauma), urology, GYN, uro-GYN, vascular, general surgery, neurosurgery/spine, and some ENT procedures.
• Da Vinci Xi robotic surgery experience required.
• Ability to maintain aseptic technique and support a safe surgical environment.

Required Clinical Skills

Orthopedics, Spine & Trauma

• Total hip and total knee replacements.
• ACL reconstruction and arthroscopy.
• Open and closed fracture reduction.
• Spinal fusion, laminectomy, and discectomy.
• Cervical and lumbar fusion, kyphoplasty, and XLIF.
• Carpal tunnel release and trauma procedures.
• Amputations and podiatric procedures.

General & Vascular Surgery

• Appendectomy and cholecystectomy.
• Open and laparoscopic colon resection.
• Inguinal and umbilical hernia repair.
• Mastectomy and partial/total thyroidectomy.
• Carotid endarterectomy.
• Femoral-popliteal bypass graft.
• Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair experience preferred.

Gynecology & Uro-GYN

• Abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy.
• Anterior/posterior repair (colporrhaphy).
• Bilateral tubal ligation and D&C.
• Laparoscopic gynecological procedures.
• Tuboplasty and vulvectomy.
• C-section experience preferred.

Urology

• Cystoscopy and ureteroscopy.
• Nephrectomy and prostatectomy.
• Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).
• Laparoscopic-assisted urologic procedures.

Neurosurgery & ENT

• Anterior cervical fusion and other cervical spine procedures.
• Lumbar fusion, laminectomy, discectomy, and kyphoplasty.
• Endoscopic sinus procedures.
• Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy.
• Tracheostomy and radical neck dissection.

Robotic & Specialized Procedures

• Da Vinci Xi robotic surgery experience required.
• Robotic colorectal, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, and urologic procedures.
• Mako Surgical System and orthopedic robotic surgery experience preferred.
• EVAR and TAVR experience preferred.
• PEG tube placement/exchange.
• Specialized plastic surgery procedures, including mastectomy with TRAM flap reconstruction.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Maintain aseptic technique and a sterile field.
• Anticipate surgeons’ needs and provide instruments during procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning and maintain patient safety.
• Manage surgical instruments, case carts, and supplies.
• Support robotic and minimally invasive procedures.
• Follow infection prevention, safety, and hospital protocols.

Schedule & On-Call Requirements

• Regular Schedule: 3×12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM.
• On-Call: Approximately one day per week and one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) within a six-week schedule.
• Weekend Requirement: On-call coverage only.
• Block Scheduling: Required; confirm the specific arrangement with the facility.
• Floating: Not required; no floating between units.
• 48-Hour Weeks: Not approved.
• Staffing Ratio: 1:1.

Ideal Candidate

An NBSTSA-certified Surgical Technologist with at least 2–3 years of perioperative experience, community hospital experience, broad multi-specialty OR skills, and hands-on Da Vinci Xi robotic surgery experience. First-time travelers are welcome.
