Unit: 10-bed Stepdown unit and 15-bed Telemetry unit
 

Requirements

• At least 2 years as an RN, including 1 solid year of Stepdown/PCU experience and 1 completed travel assignment
• Active compact RN license
• AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS
• Recent Epic experience; checkoff class required
• Telemetry interpretation; must pass telemetry testing
• Ability to initiate/titrate insulin, heparin, and cardiac drips

Schedule and patient care

• Patients: Sepsis, CHF, COPD, DKA, cirrhosis, dementia, and postoperative urology, abdominal, and orthopedic patients
• Stepdown ratios: Days 1:4–5; nights 1:5–6
• Telemetry ratios: Days 1:5–6; nights 1:6
• Charge nurse: Rarely takes patients on days; takes an assignment on nights
• Floating: Travelers float first within skillset. Potential cross-campus floating with 2-hour notice; mid-shift floating within the same campus is possible, and cross-campus mid-shift floating is uncommon but possible.
• Preferred skills: PIV insertion, stable home vents, continuous BiPAP, chest tubes/drains, CBI, stable drips, blood administration, and neutropenic precautions
