We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse for an Adult Medical-Surgical unit at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. The unit provides care for a diverse patient population, with a strong focus on stroke patients, post-operative patients, and individuals with complex medical conditions.

The ideal candidate will have strong assessment and critical-thinking skills, experience managing medically complex patients, and the ability to recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients, monitor vital signs and neurological status, and identify changes requiring intervention.
• Provide nursing care to stroke patients and perform neurological assessments using NIHSS.
• Care for post-operative patients, including those with amputations, surgical drains, chest tubes and feeding tubes.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy, including heparin infusions as appropriate.
• Perform wound care and support patients with acute kidney injury, dialysis-related needs and COPD exacerbations.
• Monitor patients experiencing altered mental status or alcohol withdrawal and provide appropriate interventions.
• Deliver compassionate care to comfort-care and hospice patients.
• Maintain patient safety, follow infection prevention protocols and document care accurately.
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
• Respond to emergencies and escalate changes in patient condition promptly.

Required Qualifications

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Current BLS/CPR certification.
• Current ACLS certification.
• NIHSS certification, as specifically required for this position.
• Ability to work three 12-hour night shifts per week.
• Availability to work every other weekend and every other holiday.
• Competence in adult Medical-Surgical nursing and neurological assessment.
