Respiratory Therapist (RT) – Job Breakdown

Shift Timings- 6:30 AM–7:00 PM / 6:30 PM–7:00 AM

Charting System- EPIC

Weekend- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)

Holidays- Every other holiday

Mandatory Requirements

• BLS – AHA.
• NBRC certification: RRT or CRT.
• Experience in a large critical care facility with 300+ beds.
• Critical care experience.
• Must not have worked at any OSF facility within the past year.
• Active Illinois license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated.
• Prefer RRT candidates over CRT candidates.

Clinical Responsibilities & Workload

• Approximately 26–28 AARC points per day.
• Treats general medical, intermediate care, and ICU patients.
• Experience with critical care patients is essential.

Orientation

• First 12 hours: EPIC training, ventilator review, IPV, and specialty equipment review.
• Second and third 12-hour days: Orientation with a preceptor.
• After orientation: Works independently.
• 12 orientation hours are non-billable, and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.

Important OSF Policies

• Local rate: Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility receive a $25 reduction to regular and overtime bill rates.
• Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours per 13 weeks, without penalty or payment for the shift.
• Drug-free campus: Candidate must produce a negative drug screen for all panels.
• Submission must include:
  • Candidate's middle initial.
  • Requested time off.
  • Active IL license or confirmation of application initiation.
  • Confirmation that the candidate understands the drug-screen requirement.
