Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical Technologist (Generalist) to support hospital laboratory operations on a primarily second-shift schedule. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working across multiple laboratory departments, including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Urinalysis, and Serology/Immunology.

Candidates must have hands-on generalist experience and be comfortable performing blood bank procedures. Familiarity with Cerner Millennium LIS is required. Experience with the ECHO Lumena blood bank analyzer is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing across multiple departments, including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Urinalysis, and Serology.
• Perform ABO/Rh testing, antibody screening and identification, crossmatching, and transfusion reaction workups.
• Operate laboratory analyzers and automated instrumentation.
• Prepare, receive, process, label, and transport specimens.
• Perform quality control procedures and review QC results.
• Conduct manual and automated testing, interpret results, and report findings accurately.
• Maintain proper specimen handling, storage, and disposal procedures.
• Follow laboratory safety, quality assurance, and regulatory standards.
• Document test results and laboratory activities in Cerner Millennium.
• Provide coverage across laboratory departments based on operational needs.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist experience.
• Generalist experience across multiple hospital laboratory departments.
• Comfortable working independently in Blood Bank.
• Cerner Millennium LIS experience.
• ASCP certification or an accepted equivalent credential.
• AMT or AAB certification may be accepted with a bachelor's degree.
• Previous travel experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• ASCP-MLS certification.
• Community hospital experience.
• Trauma Level II experience.
• Hands-on experience with ECHO Lumena blood bank instrumentation.
• Experience with the following laboratory systems and equipment:
  • LIS: Cerner Millennium
  • Chemistry: Siemens Dimension Vista 500
  • Hematology: Sysmex XN 2000
  • Coagulation: IL ACL TOP 350
  • Urinalysis: Sysmex UA
  • Serology/Immunology: Roche LIAT and Qiagen
  • Blood Bank: Automated ECHO Lumena, electronic crossmatching, and tube backup
  • Automation: Alinity/Abbott GLP automated track system

Laboratory Skills

• Chemistry: Cardiac enzymes, immunoassay, hormone and thyroid testing, therapeutic drug monitoring, and tumor markers.
• Blood Bank: ABO/Rh, antibody screening and identification, AHG crossmatch, DAT, electronic crossmatch, and transfusion reaction workups.
• Hematology/Coagulation: Automated instrumentation, manual differential, platelet count, reticulocyte count, fibrinogen, and TEG.
• Microbiology: Aerobic and anaerobic cultures, culture plating, Gram stain, PCR testing, and rapid test kits.
• Urinalysis: Automated and manual UA, microscopic analysis, and crystal identification.
• Immunology/Serology: Pregnancy testing, RPR, body fluid testing, and rapid test kits.

Schedule Expectations

• Primarily second shift, five 8-hour shifts per week.
• Shift may be assigned as 1:30 PM–10:00 PM or 2:30 PM–11:00 PM.
• Rotating shifts may be required based on department needs.
• Weekend night coverage may be required on Friday and Saturday nights, typically 11:00 PM–7:30 AM.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Candidates should have strong hospital laboratory generalist experience and be comfortable rotating across multiple laboratory departments. Independent Blood Bank competency and Cerner Millennium experience are essential screening priorities. Experience with ECHO Lumena is a significant advantage.
