Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures.
• Monitor patients' vital signs, airway, oxygenation, and level of consciousness.
• Assess and manage post-operative pain, nausea, and other complications.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Monitor patients for anesthesia-related complications and provide timely interventions.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate patient documentation and ensure patient safety.
• Provide patient and family education regarding post-operative care.
• Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols, and infection-control standards.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
• At least 1 year of patient ratio experience.
• Previous PACU experience preferred.
• Active North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license (must be in hand).
• First-time travelers are not accepted.
• Local candidates are accepted.

Required Certifications

• ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
• BLS – Basic Life Support
• PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support

All required certifications must be in hand at the time of submission.

Shift & Scheduling Details

• Day shift: 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
• Four 10-hour shifts per week.
• On-call requirement:
  • 1 weekend and 4 weekdays over a 6-week period.
• Orientations are conducted bi-weekly.

Additional Requirements

• Flu vaccination is mandatory.
• No flu vaccine exemptions or declinations accepted.
• One supervisory reference from within the last year is required.
• Nursys report required for RN submissions.
• Requested time off (RTO) must be included at submission.
• Maximum 5–7 days of RTO permitted.
• No previously approved time off unless included with submission.

Compliance Requirements

• Compliance documents must be submitted by Friday, one week before the start date, by 4:00 PM EST.
• Candidates previously employed permanently by Duke University Health System must disclose this in their employment history.
• Candidates must not have been permanent Duke employees within the past 6 months.

Local Candidate Policy

• Candidates residing within 75 miles are considered local.
