Rancho Mirage, CA

About

Rancho Mirage in southern California, just south of Palm Springs, is a wonderful place to escape the winter blues. The city’s name comes from a story of a woman named Ruth Wheeler who saw a ranch in the distance and mistook it for a mirage, hence the name “Rancho Mirage.” Characterized by abundant sun, desert and palm trees, Rancho Mirage offers much more than you might imagine. Visitors love Sunnylands Center & Gardens, a 200-acre estate once so popular with U.S. presidents that it earned the nickname “the Western White House.” Play a round of golf at one of Rancho Mirage’s many stunning golf courses, or enjoy some live music at the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater. For those with their heads in the clouds, try stargazing at the brand new Rancho Mirage Observatory, featuring a telescope where you can see objects 50 million light years away.
