Operating Room

Overview

• 13-week contract
• Dover Foxcroft, Maine
• 36 hours per week
• Shift: Monday–Thursday, 7:00am–4:30pm
• Start needed: 10/26

Role details

• Operating Room role in a Critical Access Hospital with 3 OR suites and 1 GI Endoscopy room
• Average case volume: approximately 8–10 cases per day
• No floating

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maine
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• OR - Operating Room (2 years of experience)
• OR - Operating Room experience within the last year
• Experience in a Procedural Area setting
• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• FACIS Level 3
• RN experience circulating the listed case types
• RN must be comfortable learning Pre-op/PACU duties and taking on some duties there
• RN must be comfortable monitoring patients on a cardiac monitor and interpreting cardiac rhythms
• CST must be comfortable scrubbing the listed case types

Preferred Qualifications

• RN Cerner experience

Case mix

• General: gallbladders, appendectomies, colectomies, hernia repairs (laparoscopic and open)
• Ortho: total joints (hips, knees, shoulders), sports medicine
• Podiatry: toe amputation, bunionectomies, hammer toes
• GYN: hysterectomies (mostly laparoscopic), tubals, hysteroscopies, DNCs
• OB: C-sections
• Endoscopic: colonoscopies, EGDs, bronchs
• Urology: TURPs, cystos, lithotripsies, circumcisions
• No robotics, high level traumas, neuro, etc.

Scheduling and call

• 4–8 call shifts per month
• 1 weekend of call per month
• 20-minute response time
• Weekend rotation is call only
• Major holidays are call only
• RTO requires manager approval

Unit support

• Supervisor
• 3 CRNAs
• Charge RN
• RT
• No transporter; RNs transport patients
• No housekeeping; travelers help turn over and clean rooms

Orientation

• 4 shifts of orientation in the department
• Buddy call may be available during orientation, but independent call is expected by the 2nd week

Equipment and systems

• EMR: Cerner
• IV pumps: Alaris
• Med dispensing: Pyxis

• Surgical scrubs provided
• Free parking
• Guest House available for call team only if normal housing is more than 20 minutes away
