Ortho Neuro Trauma MS RN - Days

Location: Evansville, Indiana Specialty: Medical-Surgical Employment Type: Travel Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour days, 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM

Required Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications (to be attached upon submittal)

• Current active compact license
• AHA BLS
• NIHSS

Experience

• 2 years as an RN
• One full year of ortho/neuro/trauma experience
• 1 travel assignment
• Trauma level II experience

Required Skills

• Strong neuro assessment
• Log rolling patients
• Applying assistive devices (back brace, immobilizer)
• Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers must pass a telemetry test; stepdown experience only)
• PIV insertion

Preferred Skills

• Chest tube/indwelling drain management
• Drips (heparin, lasix, protonix)
• Epidural management
• PEGs/NGs
• Buck's traction
• Pin site care
• On-Q management
• CIWA/BH
• Wounds (packing, wound vacs)

Patient Population

• Trauma
• Ortho (broken hip/femur)
• Neuro (scheduled neck and back, spine/rib fx)

Unit Information

• 44 beds
• Ratio: Days 1:3-5; NOCs 1:4-7
• CN takes patients on nights but rarely on days
• Teaching hospital; may be required to precept students and new hires
• Staff and leadership treat travelers as their own; manager has been on the unit since 2017

Schedule and Hours

• Guaranteed 36 hours (will accept 48 upon request)
• Overtime begins after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Biweekly orientation; GSA hours are not guaranteed the week of orientation
• Guaranteed set hours per week, except during holidays when the unit is closed
• Weekends: three weekends out of every six-week schedule
• Holidays: every other holiday
• On-call/call-back: N/A

Float Requirements

• First to float within skillset
• Mid-shift float within the same campus
• Floats to another campus about 8 miles away
• May float to a facility in another state about 11 miles away; 2-hour notice given for cross-campus float
• Cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible

Other Details

• Charting: recent electronic medical record experience; will complete a checkoff class
• Navy blue scrubs; no competing health system or agency logos
• 3 call-ins can result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
