RN Step Down

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin Contract Length: 13 to 26 weeks Shift: 19:00 - 07:30

Assignment Details

• Placement is on a PCU or Med/Surg/Telemetry unit, based on where the greatest need is and the traveler's skills.
• Accepts an M/S or Stepdown RN. Both skills use the same credentialing, and the RN Step Down (PCU) specialty exam and skills must be completed.
• Floating is required within the traveler's skill set, or to sites within 40 miles if needed.

Experience

• 2 years of PCU / Med-Surg Telemetry acute care experience.
• Prior travel experience required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Stepdown experience: 2 years.
• Stepdown experience within the last year.
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience.
• One completed travel assignment.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• NIHSS certification.
• Valid driver's license.

Submission Requirements

• Resume or profile.
• At least two professional references, completed before the first assignment.
• License/certificate verification and Nursys verification (see Required Qualifications).

Health and Immunization Requirements

• MMR: documented proof of two doses or a positive IgG titer. No declinations accepted. If titer is negative, two doses four weeks apart are required.
• Varicella: documented proof of two doses, serological immunity, or verified history of varicella or herpes zoster. If negative, two doses four weeks apart are required. No declinations accepted.
• Hepatitis B: documentation of the 3-vaccine series or a signed and dated declination.
• Influenza vaccine: exemptions and declinations accepted, but the traveler must wear a mask at all times. Flu season runs October 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027.
• TB: 2-step PPD or IGRA (QuantiFERON/T-SPOT). First PPD within 1 year, second PPD within 30 days of start, and/or negative IGRA within 90 days of start. TB questionnaire updated annually. A positive TB result requires chest X-ray proof within the last year.
• Tdap: valid for 10 years from administration date. No declinations or attestations accepted.
• Health statement or completed physical exam before first assignment, updated annually.
• Respirator fit test (required for all travelers, updated annually). Preferred to be completed before start, but can be done onsite. PAPR fit tests are not completed onsite. WI and MI require 3M 1860 Regular, 3M 1860 Small, or 3M 1870+.
• 11-panel drug screen within 30 days before the first assignment, updated annually. Retesting is required if there is a break in service over 90 days.

Onboarding and Training Requirements

• Pre-hire education attestation, uploaded by the agency once the 6-hour pre-hire modules are complete.
• Nursing contract worker onboarding, completed onsite.
• Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules, required annually.
• EMR test-out, including test results, a training checklist, and a signed attestation.
• Facility Unit-specific checklist (optional for onboarding, but the unit leader must upload it within one week).
• Badge photo: forward-facing headshot with a white or blue background, no alterations or filters.
• Driver's license or state ID, not expired, showing front and back, with an address matching the file. For compact licenses, the address must match the home state.
• Confirmation of assignment on agency letterhead, provided at initial assignment and updated with each extension.

Background and Verification

• Criminal background check (Social Security trace, OIG search, National Sex Offender search, 7-year county and employment search, National Criminal, OFAC, and VSOP), completed within 90 days of first assignment and updated yearly.
• EPLS check, run within 90 days of start and rerun after a break in service over 90 days.
• Education verification, completed within 90 days of start. Diplomas are not accepted; official transcripts are required if verification fails.
• Third-party employment verification for the past 7 years, updated yearly. It must match the resume or profile.
• Name change documentation (optional).
