Cardiac Stepdown/MedSurg RN

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7pm to 7am)
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Unit: Stepdown, 32 beds total (22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds)

Required Qualifications

Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
Any license hits must be disclosed at time of submission
Stepdown and MedSurg/Telemetry experience
Will work with floor patients

Assignment Details

Patient ratios: Stepdown 1:3; Floor 1:5 or 6
Common diagnoses: Cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, medicine and hospitalist (med-surg)
Drip titration: RNs are required to titrate drips. Common drips include heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine.
Charge nurse: A dedicated charge nurse is assigned to the unit each shift. Three house supervisors are in the building at all times. The goal is a charge nurse who does not take patients, but depending on staffing they may carry 1 to 3 patients.
Clinical associates: Typically 2 overnight (1:16 ratio) due to staffing, with a budget for 4 (1:8 ratio).
Respiratory equipment: Nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach to vent. A dedicated RT covers the 9th floor.
Telemetry monitoring: Tele techs sit in the tele rooms on 8SE and 10SE and monitor and record telemetry strips. Monitoring is by Phillips.
Scheduling: Self-scheduling is allowed, with block scheduling generally available. Weekend requirement is 3 to 4 Saturdays and Sundays, 2 Fridays, and 2 Mondays per 4-week schedule period. The weekend night shift position is looking for every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Holidays: One eve and one day (Black Friday or Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day).
Call/standby: None
Floating: Traveler is the first pulled off the unit if needed. Rotational pull to the floor is typically 1 of every 3 shifts, tracked by charge nurses.
Dress code: Royal blue scrubs
Orientation: Unit/department-specific orientation is provided.
