Neuro ICU Registered Nurse

Overview

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment type: Travel/Contract
Start date: 11/30
Contract length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 x 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (36 hours/week)
Weekends: Every other weekend
On-call: Not required
Block schedule: Not accommodated
Local candidates: Accepted (no local radius rule)
Pending licenses: Not accepted
First-time travelers: Accepted, but screened for prior Level I trauma experience and strong work history. Seasoned travelers receive an automatic offer.

Unit and Patient Population

Unit: 2W Neuro ICU
Ratios: 1:2 on days and nights
Float scope: May float within scope to other ICUs or boarders as needed
Focus: Comprehensive stroke unit (TJC accredited). Primarily neuroscience patients, with some medical and surgical overflow.
Neurosurgical conditions: Hemorrhagic stroke, SAH, aneurysms and other vascular malformations requiring open or endovascular intervention, planned tumor removal
Other neurological conditions: Mild to severe TBI, SCI, ischemic stroke requiring tPA and/or thrombectomy, seizure disorders, neuro infections

Facility Highlights

Magnet, teaching facility, Level I trauma center
500 staffed beds
Scrubs: Any solid color; light blue scrubs are provided on the unit (OR provides scrubs)
Charting: EMR, hard stop
Onsite parking is paid. An offsite garage with shuttle is available weekdays only (5 AM to 10 PM), with no nights, weekends, or holidays.

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Washington
Neuro ICU experience (2 years of experience)
Neuro ICU experience within the last year
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience with external ventricular drains (EVD)
Experience with craniotomy
Experience with burr holes
Experience with Epic
