Location: Lexington, Kentucky Employment Type: Clinical-Allied Contract Length: 18 weeks Schedule: 1st shift, 5x8s, 6a-2:30p; 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week; weekends and holidays as needed; call required

Job Summary

Functions as a member of the surgical team under the direction of the registered nurse. Performs scrub functions and other roles that support the perioperative plan of care, and assures comfort, safety, and quality perioperative care for the patient.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of operative procedures, including draping, instrumentation, suture, and equipment
• Aseptically sets up and maintains the mayo stand and back table throughout the procedure
• Counts and accounts for all required items before, during, and after the procedure
• Anticipates the surgeon's needs and has the room ready before each scheduled case
• Checks instrumentation, equipment, and supplies before use, and minimizes turnover by preparing for the next case
• Applies aseptic technique, including gowning, gloving, sterilization, and disinfection (e.g., steam, Sterrad)
• Disposes of sharps properly and reports equipment malfunctions
• Participates in unit activities, staff meetings, and orientation of new staff or students
• Completes required safety and education training, including National Patient Safety Goals and AORN Guidelines
• Provides responsive, professional customer service to internal and external customers

Required Qualifications

• Technical diploma from a surgical technology program or an Associate's degree
• BLS
• National Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
• At least 1 year of CVOR Technologist experience, with experience within the last year
• Surgical Technologist experience
