Overview

• Travel RN position in Step Down Unit
• Location: Evansville, Indiana
• Shift: 12-hour nights, 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM
• Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Start date: 11/2
• Bi-weekly orientation

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Stepdown (1 year of experience)
• Stepdown experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Trauma level II experience
• Experience with Epic

Schedule and Float

• First to float within skillset
• May float to Deaconess Newburgh, Indiana campus and potentially to Deaconess Henderson, Kentucky
• 2-hour notice given for cross-campus float
• Mid-shift float within the same campus
• Three weekends out of every six-week schedule
• Every other holiday

Unit Details

• 22-bed unit
• Ratios: Days 1:3-4; Nights 1:3-4
• CNs may take up to two patients

Patient Population

• Cardiac post-procedure patients, including cath/stents/interventions and pacers
• Arrhythmias
• CVA
• Detox/CIWA
• Sepsis
• DKA
• Respiratory distress
• Feeding tubes

Skills

• Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation
• Post heart cath care, including femoral and TR bands
• Initiate and titrate drips: cardizem, amio, cardene, nitro, insulin, heparin
• NIHSS, dysphagia screen, and strong neuro assessments
• Sepsis care
• Chest tubes
• CPAP/Optiflow
• PIV insertion
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills

Additional Notes

• No local candidates within 40 miles
• Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
• Navy blue scrubs
• No competing health systems or agency logos
• 3 call-ins can result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required
