Surgery - General (Major) RN

Location: Peoria, Illinois Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Days, 10-hour days (40 hours per week) Unit: OR - Surgery General (Major) Job Title: RN (Registered Nurse)

Required Qualifications

BLS (AHA) certification
Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
2 years of general, gyn, and urology surgery experience
Must have general surgery, urology, GYN, and ENT experience
Epic EMR familiarity requested (software familiarity, not a credential)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in facilities and ORs similar in size within the last 2 years

Unit Details

14 suites for general surgery (28 total)
Average of 20-40 cases per day for general surgery
Common cases: lap chole, lap colon, lap appy, cysto, DaVinci robotic cases, hysterectomy, vascular, ENT, urology
A charge nurse helps with cases
OR techs work with the surgical technologist in the OR
Scrubbing: N/A for RNs

Scheduling and Call

Shifts are 7:00-17:30 or 12:30-23:00, for 36 or 40 hours per week depending on contract
No self-scheduling; block scheduling is determined by need
Weeknight call: 1 per week, assigned call shift between 15:30-23:00, 17:30-23:00, 19:30-23:00, or 23:00-07:00
Sleep policy: if working more than 4 hours after 23:00, 8 hours off from clock-out
Weekend call: every other or every third weekend, full weekend with assigned call shift
Holiday call: N/A
Call response time: 30 minutes
Call-off policy: equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks, with no penalty or need to pay for the shift

Floating

May float to other surgery teams or SPD if qualified

Orientation

12 non-billable orientation hours; guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
Unit-specific orientation up to one week if needed, plus facility-wide orientation

Submission Requirements

Clinician's middle initial
Requested time off
Candidate must understand the facility is a drug-free campus and must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Other Details

Hospital-provided scrubs
Local placements accepted for clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles
