Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit

Location: Newburgh, Indiana Employment Type: Travel Contract Length: 13 weeks Start Dates: 11/16 or 11/23 (bi-weekly orientation; 11/23 approved as off orientation) Shift: 12-hour nights, 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week (will accept 48-hour weeks upon request). GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation week. Traveler is guaranteed set hours per week, except during holidays when the unit is closed. Candidate Restriction: No local candidates (40-mile radius rule)

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• One year of step down experience, completed within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
• Experience with titratable drips
• Experience with post-operative recovery
• Experience with neuro checks
• Experience with Epic

Patient Population

Cardiac (post-cath stents/interventions, pacers), CIWA/BH, sepsis, DKA, CVA, CPAP, feeding tubes, post-op cranial day 2, GI bleeds, hypothermia/Bair Hugger

Float Scope

• Float first within skillset
• Mid-shift float within the same campus, with cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• Another campus in the system, 8 miles away
• A facility across the state line in Kentucky, 11 miles away
• Cross-campus float requires 2 hours' notice

Schedule

• Weekends: three out of every six weeks
• Holidays: every other holiday
• On-call/call-back: N/A

Unit Information

• 16 beds
• Ratios: days 1:3-4; nights 1:3-4 (1:5 for medical/surgical patients); charge nurse takes 1:2 assignment
• Strengths: strong CNA support, very helpful charge nurses, great teamwork
• Teaching hospital; may be asked to precept students and new hires

Other Notes

• Scrubs: navy blue, with no competing health system or agency logos
• Attendance: 3 call-ins can result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
