Role Summary

The staff Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The nurse provides care using the nursing process and the resources of the unit and institution.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit within the scope of service, and implements procedures and theories related to the area of practice.
• Completes an initial assessment on patient admission and develops and implements a plan of care based on patient and family needs, modifying it through continuous evaluation.
• Monitors EMU patients 24/7 for seizure activity.
• Works with the critical care team and hospitalists for Advanced Care patients.
• Maintains accurate, up-to-date nursing care documentation for the healthcare team.
• Ensures communication with patients and families through hourly rounding, bedside shift report, and whiteboards.
• Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting hazards and incidents.
• Fulfills all departmental competency requirements and takes initiative on own learning needs.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (3 years of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Acute Care experience
