CST/ORT First Assist

• Location: Richmond, Virginia
• Employment Type: Travel
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Hours per Week: 36
• Unit: L&D (2nd floor)
• Unit Size: 16 LDR, 3 OR, 3 Triage, 3 RR beds; approximately 70 staff
• Staffing Need: Travel RNs, local CNAs, and sitters are the most-recruited skill sets.

Staffing by Shift

• Day shift: 1 charge, 12 RN, 2-3 surgical techs
• Night shift: 1 charge, 6-7 RN, 1 surgical tech

Patient Ratios

• AWHONN ratios are the goal: 1:1, 2:1, or 3:1 (low acuity)

Required Qualifications

• Valid First Assist Technician license in Virginia
• First Assist Technician with 2 years of experience
• First Assist Technician experience within the last year
• Current BLS certification
• Current NRP certification
• OR First Assist Certification
• Experience working with Labor and Delivery patients
• Current Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring

Procedures Performed

• Labor, delivery, recovery, triage, antepartum, and circulating for C-section
• First hour baby care (excludes admission assessment, eyes, and thighs)
• Breastfeeding assistance

Equipment

• Novii monitors, iMobile, headsets, pass-through skin-to-skin C-section drape, deep soaker tubs, light therapy, aroma therapy
• EMR: Meditech

Unit Coverage

• In-house 24/7 hospitalist, midwife, anesthesia, and neonatologist coverage

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrub color, any closed shoes
• Tattoos and piercings must be covered
