Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Loveland, Colorado Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Unit: 24-bed inpatient medical unit (24 total staffed beds)

Overview

The unit cares for a diverse population with a variety of acute and chronic conditions. Travel RNs gain experience across multiple specialties while working with an interdisciplinary team.

Schedule and Assignment Details

• Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:00), 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Weekends: Required per unit needs
• On-call: Not required
• Float: May float within scope to meet unit needs and between like units, and may float to a sister facility in the system per facility needs
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 to 1:5, which may flex up based on staffing and unit needs
• Scrub color: Navy blue
• First-time travelers: Accepted if experience requirements are met

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Colorado
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg experience (2 years)
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• Experience with Epic

Certifications

• BLS: AHA only; RQI accepted
• ACLS: Not required for Med/Surg or Tele

Competencies

Required within 1 year of start and updated annually:

• Core Part I, Core Part II, and Core Part III (minimum score 80%)
• OSHA Mandatory (minimum score 80%)
• Competency Exam (minimum score 80%)
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (minimum score 80%, required for Med/Surg)

Licensure and Verification

• NURSYS verification (RN): Required within 60 days of start
• State license verification: Required within 60 days of start
• Colorado CAPS check results: Required within 60 days of start; not updated annually

Background and Compliance

• 7-year background check, including SSN trace, state and statewide checks, education verification, FACIS III, NSO, and OFAC, required within 60 days of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 60 days of start
• Candidates with gaps of 15+ days are treated as new and must meet full requirements
• E-Verify or attestation required
• Driver's license or state ID required (clear copies of front and back)
• Proof of name change required if prior documents carry a former name

Health Requirements

• Physical exam: Required within 1 year of start and updated annually; must be signed by an MD, DO, NP, or PA (not a chiropractor)
• Drug screen: Required within 30 days of start and updated annually
• Respirator fit test: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually; approved masks include 3M 1860S, 1860R, and 1870/1870+; onsite testing and PAPR are available
• TB: Negative QuantiFERON/T-SPOT or 2-step PPD within 1 year of start and updated annually; a chest X-ray and TB questionnaire are required if TB is positive
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Vaccine within 10 years of start, or signed declination within 1 year
• Measles, mumps, and rubella: Positive MMR IgG titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if titers are negative or equivocal
• Hepatitis B: Positive titer, 3-dose series, 2-dose Heplisav series, or declination
• Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines
• COVID: Proof of vaccination (AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Moderna) or signed declination
• Influenza: Current seasonal flu vaccine or facility-approved exemption; declination forms are not accepted
• Color blind exam (Ishihara): Must be completed in person before start date; online testing not accepted; failing does not cancel the assignment

Experience and References

• Work history: Last 3 years verified, including most recent employer; gaps over 30 days must be explained; attestations not accepted
• Employment application: 3 years of employment history with current phone number and email; gaps over 30 days explained
• References: 2 from the last two years, one from the most recent employment within the last year; both from Charge RN, Manager, Supervisor, or above; preceptors acceptable

Onboarding

• Employee data sheet completed within 24 hours of signing
• Facility-specific modules completed within the first two weeks of assignment
• Skills checklist required annually
