Step Down Registered Nurse (Night Shift)

Location: Valencia, California Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Night, 3x12 hours (19:00 to 07:30) Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Unit and Assignment

• Units: DOU (PCU/TELE). Mostly Med Surg, but may float to Telemetry (TELE).
• Mandatory float: ARU and DOU. Will receive patients within scope.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: DOU 1:3, ARU 1:5

Schedule

• Every other weekend required, or more depending on department needs (6 weekend days per schedule period).
• Sunday night is not considered a weekend.
• Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted up front, with no exceptions.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Stepdown experience (1 year), with experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with pre/post cardiac catheterization care
• Experience working with cardiac surgery patients
• Experience with the management and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Experience with temporary and permanent pacemakers
• Experience with post cardiac angiogram care
• Experience with TR Band
• Experience with transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) care
• Experience with IV insulin protocols
• Experience with titration of insulin drips

Onboarding and Compliance

• Background checks: 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually. Includes county, nationwide sex offender, and education verification (highest level). Transcript or diploma accepted if needed. EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required annually.
• Identity verification: Required before start. Completed through an emailed link, and a government-issued photo ID is required.
• Health documents:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON Gold, or T-SPOT) within 90 days of start, or a TB questionnaire annually in lieu of a TB test
  • Measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella immunity (vaccines, titers, or documented declination, as applicable)
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Influenza vaccine or declination on file by November 1 (required 11/1 to 3/31; unvaccinated staff must mask during the respiratory season)
  • COVID vaccine or declination required during season
• History: 2 professional references within 3 years of start, employment application, and skills checklist updated annually.
• Facility forms: Abuse reporting acknowledgment, code of conduct (review before start), conflict of interest acknowledgment, new hire input form, policy and user acknowledgment, self-identification form, and annual regulatory attestation. A COVID declination form is completed only if declining the COVID vaccine.
