Registered Nurse – MS/Tele Float

Overview

• Location: Long Beach, California
• Specialty: Registered Nurse
• Assignment: MS/Tele, float required, with on-call duty
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Start: Begin on the Monday of start week, with facility modules completed as described below
• Backfill: Opening to backfill an existing MS/Tele RN

Schedule

• Shift: Nights, 3 x 12-hour shifts, 19:00 to 07:30
• Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Weekends: Every other weekend
• Call: Required

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience: 1 year, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS certification
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Non-invasive airway management
• Experience with Epic

Clinical Experience

• Unit accepts first-time travelers: Yes
• Patient age groups: Adolescents, adults, geriatrics
• Patient diagnoses and unit focus: Neurology, stroke, cardiac, wound care, respiratory, orthopedics, oncology, surgical
• Systems: Pyxis and Omnicell (medication systems); SBAR (communication)
• Uniform: Navy scrubs

Onboarding and Compliance

• Background:

  • Standard background check within 1 year of start, updated annually, including a 7-year search (SSN trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender search)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check (required)
  • HHS/OIG check (required)
• Documents: Government-issued photo ID, emergency contact form, employment application, 2 professional references
• Internal evaluation: Annual evaluation performed by the agency, required if the clinician has worked with the agency for a year or more
• Drug screen:

  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (instant drug screen acceptable; must not include a marijuana panel)
  • California restriction: urine testing for marijuana/THC is prohibited; saliva THC testing may be required in addition

Health Requirements

• Physical exam: Within 1 year of start, not required annually
• TB: Negative QuantiFERON-Gold, T-SPOT, or 2-step PPD within 1 year of start, updated annually (renewals accept QuantiFERON-Gold, T-SPOT, or 1 PPD); TB questionnaire annually
• Immunizations:

  • Tdap within the last 10 years (may decline if needed)
  • Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and hepatitis B immunity: positive titer or 2 vaccines (low or equivocal titers may need a booster or declination, depending on the test)
  • Flu vaccine required November 1 to April 30 (declination acceptable)
• N95 fit mask: Required within 1 year of start and renewed annually; onsite fit testing is not offered
