Overview

• Location: Kearney, Nebraska
• Shift: Nights
• Schedule: 12-hour shifts
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Hours guaranteed: 36 per week

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of unit experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Competent in arterial lines
• RN license
• Driver’s license required at submittal

Unit Details

• PCU unit with 40 beds
• Typical patient ratio: 1:4-5 on days and nights
• Common patient types include adult cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, adult respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure
• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Common drips include heparin, nitro, dopamine, Cardizem, amiodarone, and insulin
• Charge nurse is present each shift and takes an assignment
• Patient care techs are on the unit at a ratio of 1:12
• RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips
• High-flow respiratory support is used on the unit
• Floating may be required to MedSurg or ICU to take PCU-acuity patients

Schedule and Expectations

• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: at least 2 holidays during the contract
• Orientation: 1 day of unit-specific orientation
• RTO must be submitted upfront; up to 7 days total for the 13-week contract
• Additional RTO will not be approved after submission
• Blocked scheduling is not approved unless it is weekends only
• If called back in from call, arrival is required within 30 minutes

• Navy blue scrubs
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
• Teamwork, flexibility, adaptability, and strong communication skills are emphasized
• The unit serves primarily Hispanic and Somalian patient populations
