ER Registered Nurse (Per Diem)

Location: Placentia, California Employment type: Per diem Contract length: 13 weeks

Schedule and Shift

• Day shift, 12 hours (7:00 to 19:30)
• Must provide at least one day of availability per week
• Must live within a 50-mile radius

• Skills: cardiac monitoring and emergency response, IV therapy/phlebotomy, CVA, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, splinting, ortho trauma, pediatrics, psychiatric, respiratory, shock/trauma

Required Qualifications

• 1 year of ER experience
• ACLS, BLS, CPI (Blue Card only; MAB is not accepted for ER), NIHSS, and PALS certifications
• Continuing education copies from the last 24 months (each must list name, course, date, and at least 1 contact hour; BLS cannot count as CEU)
• State license with primary source verification
• Two references within 1 year of start, from a leadership role (department manager, supervisor, charge nurse, nurse manager, or assistant nurse manager), who supervised the candidate in the current specialty
• Government-issued photo ID
• Criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually (7-year search; open cases and DUI hits within 5 years are automatic cancellations)
• Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
• N95 fit test within 1 year, renewed annually (PAPR accepted only with proof of a failed N95 fit test)
• Negative TB result within 1 year (PPD, TSpot, or QGold); a positive TB result requires a negative chest X-ray within 4 years and an annual TB questionnaire
• Measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines after age 1
• Tetanus/diphtheria/Tdap, or a pertussis titer showing immunity if Tdap cannot be obtained for a health reason
• Hepatitis B series or declination (titer not accepted)
• 9-panel drug screen within 1 year (instant drug screen acceptable; not updated annually)
• Flu vaccine by 12/5 or a signed declination; decliners must follow masking requirements during flu season
• Signed HIPAA acknowledgement
• Medication/calculation exam for all per diem RNs
• Arrhythmia recognition assessment (EKG exam) with an 80% passing score
• Unit-specific competency exam
• Infection control/bloodborne pathogens exam with an 80% passing score (the full exam is required; CORE exams are not accepted)

Preferred Qualifications

• Hepatitis C titer (strongly preferred; declination accepted with a stated reason)

Orientation and Onboarding

• One day-shift orientation, scheduled based on availability, Monday through Friday
• 12 hours on the unit
• 12 to 14 hours of pre-start modules
• Epic test-out completed remotely; if failed, Epic modules must be completed before moving to the floor
• Omnicell is used instead of Pyxis
• Confidentiality agreement must be completed within 72 hours of signing
• Per diem job description and orientation acknowledgments must be signed via DocuSign
