RN (Registered Nurse): Trauma General Surg Stepdown/MedSurg

• Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours (7p-7:30a; 7p-7:30a on the schedule details, 7pm-7:30am in the additional notes)
• Hours: 12 per day, 36 per week

Unit Details

• Unit name: 7 East, Trauma & General Surgery Inpatient Unit, also a nationally recognized Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center
• Beds: 30 total (12 floor, 18 stepdown). The additional notes describe the unit as 33-bed.
• Patient mix: Multi-trauma, TBI, fractures, general surgery (cholecystectomy, ostomies, etc.), bariatric surgery, and typical med-surg patients
• Ratios: 1:6 for floor (med-surg) patients, 1:3 for stepdown patients
• Nurse aides: Called "Clinical Associates," 4 when fully staffed
• Charge nurse: Budgeted free charge nurse 24/7, with a house supervisor available
• Respiratory therapy: Available 24/7, stable/chronic vents only
• Monitoring: Monitor techs read and run telemetry and monitor patients, but the RN must be able to validate and read strips.
• Titratable drips: Floor: heparin, PCAs. Stepdown: insulin, Cardizem (non-pressers). Whether RNs must titrate drips is unknown.
• Weekends: End of every other week, or 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
• Holidays: Works into the permanent staff holiday schedule as needed
• Call/standby: Unknown
• Floating: Floating to like units (floor/stepdown) is required.
• Scrub color: Royal Blue

Required Qualifications

• BLS certification
• Level 1 trauma experience (deal breaker)
• 1:6 ratio experience (deal breaker)
• Experience with complex wound care, drains, devices, traumatic injuries, chest tubes, respiratory support, TBIs, complex spinal cord injuries, and other medical and surgical conditions

Submission Requirements

• Candidates can be submitted to only 1 position at a time across the health system.
• Driver's license address must be more than 50 miles from the facility.
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years.
• Previous travelers who worked there for 1 full year must have been gone for 2 years.
• Travel teams must be submitted together in one email.
• Maximum of 2 candidates per opening. If the position is full, the submission is held until a spot opens.
