Ortho Neuro Trauma Care Center MS RN - Days

Location: Evansville, Indiana Employment Type: Travel Specialty: Medical-Surgical Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM (12-hour days) Primary Unit: Midtown campus, 44 beds Start: Bi-weekly orientation (start date not specified)

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of experience as an RN, including 1 full year of ortho/neuro/trauma experience
• Trauma level II experience
• 1 travel assignment
• Current active compact RN license
• AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications, to be attached at submittal
• Strong neuro assessment skills
• Log rolling patients and applying assistive devices (back brace, immobilizer)
• Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation; travelers must pass a telemetry test (stepdown experience only)
• PIV insertion
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills

• Chest tube and indwelling drain management
• Drips (heparin, lasix, protonix)
• Epidural management
• PEGs/NGs
• Buck's traction
• Pin site care
• On-Q management
• CIWA/BH
• Wound care (packing, wound vacs)

Patient Population

• Trauma
• Ortho (broken hip/femur)
• Neuro (scheduled neck and back, spine/rib fractures)

Schedule and Hours

• Guaranteed 36 hours per week (48 hours available upon request)
• Overtime begins after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Three weekends out of every six-week schedule
• Every other holiday
• On-call/call-back: N/A
• Guaranteed set hours per week, except during holidays when the unit is closed
• GSA hours are not guaranteed the week of orientation

Float Requirements

• First to float within skillset
• Mid-shift float within the same campus
• Cross-campus float to another campus in the system about 8 miles away, with 2 hours' notice
• Potential float to a campus across the state line about 11 miles away
• Cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible

Unit Information

• Ratio: 1:3-5 on days; 1:4-7 on nights
• CN takes patients on nights but rarely on days
• Staff and leadership treat travelers as their own
• Manager has been on the unit since 2017

Other Details

• Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
• Navy blue scrubs; no competing health system or agency logos
• Three call-ins can result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
