Registered Nurse, Step Down

Location: Dayton, Ohio Contract Length: 13 weeks (an 18-week contract is also available) Employment Type: Travel/Contract Schedule: Nights, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:30), 48 hours per week Unit: HRRU unit (high-risk respiratory unit), with float to other units

Assignment Overview

• High-acuity, fast-paced step-down unit that needs good time management skills
• Targeted patient ratio of 1:4, with ratios of up to 1:5-6 possible
• Daily average census of 31
• Patient population: DKA, GI bleed, COPD, pneumonia, stroke, sepsis, and urology complications
• Navy blue scrubs
• Must be available to work at least every other weekend and every other holiday
• Traveler is first to float at the system's discretion and may float in and out of specialty clusters, including the high-risk respiratory unit and COVID units
• Floating may include other campuses within 10 miles (south) and 15 miles (north) of the main campus
• The facility may cancel 3 shifts for low census on a 13-week contract (2 shifts on an 8-week contract)
• The facility may cancel the agreement with 2 weeks' notice without fee or fine

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio
• Stepdown (2 years of experience)
• Stepdown experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience in a large hospital setting
• Experience with mechanical ventilation
• IV insertion skills
• Experience with Epic

Unit Skills Desired

• Excellent critical thinking
• Cardiac monitor interpretation
• Ventilator and tracheostomy experience
• Managing chest tubes and drains
• Cardiac drips

Application Process

• Request RTO (return to organization) with the initial submittal. No RTO can be added after the offer. Approval is at the manager's discretion.
• The submittal must include the application and a current Nursys report. Other certifications are not needed if they are listed on the application.
