Cardiac Telemetry/Step Down RN

Location: Wausau, WI Employment Type: Travel Contract Length: 13 weeks Start Date: 11/30/26 Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week

Unit and Assignment

• Unit: Cardiac Telemetry Unit, 44-bed intermediate cardiac stepdown
• Shift: 12-hour night shift, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Float Scope: Float to all inpatient units as needed
• Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4
• Patient Population: Fast-paced with high patient turnover. Post-op CABG/valve, thoracotomy, vascular, arrhythmia, CHF, post-procedure cath, pacer, defib, and ablations, acute CP/MI, and med/surg overflow (e.g., detox, DKA, COPD exacerbation, respiratory failure, femoral-popliteal bypass)
• Weekends/Holidays: Every other weekend and every other holiday
• Low Census: May be low censused in 4-hour increments, and may be asked to work only 4 or 8 hours of a shift. This is not considered on call.
• Orientation: GSA hours are not guaranteed the week of orientation. Hours are guaranteed except during holidays when the unit is closed.
• Scrub Colors: Any color

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• At least 1 year of cardiac stepdown experience, completed within the last year
• 2 years of telemetry, Intermediate Care (IMC), or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• Experience with cardiac drips, including amiodarone, Cardizem, and nitro drips (candidates cannot advance in the interview process without it)
• Experience with Epic
• One completed travel assignment

Other Expectations

• Hard worker, resilient, manages change well, and able to work independently and complete tasks on time
• During flu season, travelers who decline flu and COVID vaccination must wear a mask at all times. This is a facility policy with no exceptions, and failure to comply may result in corrective action.
