Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Evansville, Indiana

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour Nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)

Job Description

• Provide nursing care for a Medical-Surgical patient population including post-surgical, UTI, sepsis, high fall risk, COPD, and CHF patients.
• Skills required include remote telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, NG/PEG tubes, straight catheter/Foley catheter care, ostomy care, heparin drips, blood/blood product administration, tracheostomy care, and PCA management.
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills are essential.
• Must be resilient, adaptable to change, and socially engaged.
• May be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching hospital environment.

Unit Information

• 41-bed unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:6-7
• Experienced leadership and CNA support available
• Float requirement: First to float within skillset to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus possible
• Weekend/Holiday requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday
• No on-call or call-back required
• Scrubs policy: No competing health system or agency logos allowed
• Attendance policy: Three call-ins may result in termination

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• At least 1 prior travel assignment completed
• Experience in a trauma level II setting
• Recent EPIC charting experience (checkoff class required)
• Current active compact RN license for Indiana
• Current AHA BLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Additional Information

• Orientation occurs bi-weekly starting 7/27
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week; guaranteed set hours per week otherwise except during unit closures on holidays
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
