Registered Nurse – Neurology (Travel)

Location: Newburgh, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)

Job Description

• Care for Neuro and Neuro-Surgical patients including CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, post-op craniotomies, cerebral angiograms, general medical, and psychiatric patients.
• Perform NIHSS, dysphagia screening, strong neurological assessments, basic telemetry interpretation, strict intake & output monitoring, straight catheterization, Foley catheter care, initiation and titration of heparin drips, blood and blood product administration, venipuncture, blood cultures, NG tube management, indwelling drain management, and stable medication drips (e.g., Protonix, Lasix).
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required.
• May be required to precept students and new hires.
• Float requirement: float within skillset primarily on the same campus with possible cross-campus float (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice.
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday.
• No on-call or call-back required.
• No blocked schedule requests allowed.

Unit Information

• 37-bed unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: Days 1:5-6, Nights 1:5-7
• Charge nurse takes partial patient assignment
• Strong leadership and well-developed nursing team that welcomes travelers
• Navy blue scrubs required; no competing health system or agency logos allowed
• Teaching hospital environment

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of strong neurology nursing experience
• At least 1 prior travel assignment completed
• Experience in a trauma level II setting
• Current active compact RN license for Indiana
• Current AHA BLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Recent EPIC charting experience (checkoff class required)

Additional Information

• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered
• Orientation is bi-weekly starting 7/27
• Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
• Three call-ins may result in termination
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week; guaranteed set hours otherwise except when unit is closed for holidays
