Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel assignment in Evansville, Indiana
• Primary location: Midtown
• 13-week contract
• 12-hour day shift: 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week; 48-hour contracts may be accepted upon request
• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Experience with Epic
• Cardiac catheterization recovery experience (femoral/TR bands)
• Post-surgical care experience (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, kidney stones)
• Initiate and titrate drips (Heparin, Insulin)
• Indwelling drain management
• Nasogastric tube insertion

Unit Details

• Observation MS unit
• 23 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • PMs: 1:5-6
  • Nights: 1:6-7
• CN takes patient assignment on all shifts

Float / Schedule Expectations

• First to float within skillset
• May float to Deaconess Newburgh campus and potentially to Deaconess Henderson
• 2-hour notice given for cross-campus float
• Mid-shift float within the same campus
• Three weekends out of every six-week schedule
• Every other holiday
• On-call: N/A

Clinical Experience / Patient Care

• Cardiac chest pain, stress test/Lexiscan, and post-cath without intervention
• CVA/TIA
• Hypotensive, syncope/dizziness, SOB
• Post-surgical, GI/Urology pre/post procedure
• AKI, cellulitis, detox/CIWA
• Cardiac cath recovery
• Post-surgical care including appy, chole, and stones
• NIHSS / neuro assessment / dysphagia screen
• Initiate and titrate drips: Heparin, Insulin
• Indwelling drain management
• Straight cath / foley care
• NG tube insertion
• Blood administration/documentation

Additional Notes

• Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
• Navy blue scrubs required
• No hoodies or sweatshirts
• No competing health systems or agency logos
• 3 call-ins can result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required, subject to change
