Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on a 41-bed Cardiac Renal Unit with a high-acuity patient population including telemetry and medical-surgical patients.
  • Patient conditions include Afib with RVR, Afib, flutter, blocks, heart cath without interventions, CHF, COPD, sepsis, BH/CIWA, post ablations, and dialysis.
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM).
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request).
  • Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday.
  • Float Requirement: First to float within skillset to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus possible.
  • No on-call or call-back required.
  • Scrubs must not display competing health system or agency logos.
  • Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires.
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change).

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of strong Cardiac/Telemetry nursing experience.
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment completed.
  • Experience in a trauma level II setting.
  • Current active compact RN license.
  • Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS.
  • Recent experience with EPIC charting system (checkoff class required).
  • Must pass telemetry tests (12-lead EKG interpretation required).
  • Skills in initiating and titrating drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, amiodarone, etc.), PIV insertion, chest tube/indwelling drain management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), nephrostomy tubes, and stable drip management (heparin, lasix, protonix).
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, resilience, and adaptability.

Unit Information

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-7.
  • Charge nurse rarely takes patients on days but does on nights.
  • Unit has excellent retention and experienced staff; leadership stable for 15+ years.
  • Contract openings due to upcoming staff FMLA.
  • Attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination.

Additional Notes

  • No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered.
  • Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
  • GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week; guaranteed set hours otherwise except when unit is closed for holidays.
