ED Surge Stepdown Cardiac Registered Nurse

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Schedule: Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM to 7:30 PM), 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week Weekends: Every other weekend (EOW) Scheduling Note: No Thanksgiving RTO

Assignment Details

• The traveler is contracted to the ED unit to care for inpatient/CICU Level holds in the ED.
• Patient diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, heart failure, sepsis, overdose, GI bleed, COPD, pneumonia, and status post cath with stent (no CABG). Also includes ICD/pacer insertions and cardioversions.
• Overflow patients may include Medical, Surgical, Trauma, Oncology, and Orthopedic patients.
• Titrates drips, most commonly Lasix, Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Integrilin, Labetalol, Dopamine, and Dobutamine.
• Special equipment: BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, and Phillips Monitoring System.
• Team nursing approach with patient sitting. Traveler will not take a patient that does not match their clinical assignment or team.
• The traveler will assist in being floated to similar units.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New Hampshire
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 2 years of Cardiac Stepdown experience, with Cardiac Stepdown experience within the last year
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• Experience with titratable drips
• Experience with Epic
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association

Pre-Start Requirements

Background and Authorizations

• Background check completed within 30 days of start. It must include Social Security verification, national sex offender registry search, national criminal search, FACIS L3, education verification, criminal county searches for 7 years (except NH, where NH State Police search is run instead of counties), and state criminal searches for 7 years. Also includes an NH State of Residence criminal report and BAAS registry results.
• Motor vehicle background check required for home health, hospice, and visiting nurse candidates
• MA CORI required for Massachusetts assignments or for candidates who lived or worked in MA in the last 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks must be run 30 days prior to start
• Candidates cannot start with pending searches
• SSA release required
• NH statewide release required, and BAAS state registry results required for NH placements
• Transcript and diploma accepted if education verification is pending; an affidavit must be signed onsite

Drug Screen

• 10-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start, with no exceptions. A 7-day grace period applies if the start is pushed. A new screen is required if collected more than 21 days before the new start date.

Health and Immunizations

• Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
• Annual fit mask test
• Tdap within the last 10 years and after age 19. Titers are not acceptable. Religious exemptions are allowed.
• TB: 2-step PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-spot within 1 year prior to start, plus a TB questionnaire required for all travelers. Past positive TB requires proof, a negative chest X-ray within 5 years, and an annual TB questionnaire.
• Measles, mumps, and rubella: immunity by titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart. Religious exemptions are not allowed.
• Varicella: immunity by titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart. History of disease is not acceptable. Religious exemptions are not allowed.
• Hepatitis B: immunity by titer or 3 vaccines at least 28 days apart. Declinations are acceptable with a facility waiver. Religious exemptions are not allowed.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for candidates starting 10/1 or later (flu season 10/1 to 4/1)
• RespSafety clearance required for all clinical travelers
