RN - Labor Delivery Recovery Postpartum

Location: Goldsboro, North Carolina Employment Type: Clinical-Nursing Shift: Nights, 12 hours per day, 48 hours per week Contract Length: 13 weeks Extensions: Possible, based on evaluation and department needs Permanent Position: Possible

Role Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reports to the Nurse Manager/Director and coordinates and delivers patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting. Duties include patient assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, patient and family education, discharge planning, and participation in unit performance improvement.

Unit Information

Averages 100-120 births/deliveries per month, with approximately 25 C-sections performed monthly
About 60 RNs on staff within the perinatal service line, plus technicians
Preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, placenta previa, and previous C-sections are seen daily, with continuous and intermittent fetal heart monitoring as ordered by providers
Follows AWHONN staffing standards: travelers may have 1-2 patients in active labor at one time, depending on acuity
Dedicated anesthesia team 24/7, postpartum support, and lactation consultants (Monday-Friday, IBCLC-certified, with other experts on various shifts)
Travelers may float to support the women and children's unit
Block schedule requests are reviewed

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
One (1) year of Labor Delivery Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP) experience, with LDRP experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
NIHSS certification
Experience circulating for C-sections
Able to triage for OB
Experience with Epic

Pros

The unit I was on was great. Great staff, great management, and decent workflow. It was decent hospital and camaraderie overall. Would return to the same unit.

Cons

You noticed the cons of being a small/community hospital. The limitations on certain staff roles was relevant.
