MS ICU 3N/3S RN

Overview

• Role: ICU RN
• Department: Med Surg ICU RN
• Location: Omaha, Nebraska
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts
• Hours: 36 hours per week guaranteed

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of recent ICU experience
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• RN license
• Driver’s license required at submittal

Unit Details

• 34 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • ICU: 1:1-2
  • PCU: 1:4-5
  • MS: 1:5-6
• Charge nurse on each shift; charge nurse attends RRTs and Codes
• Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit: 1:18
• RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Floating: all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Orientation: 2 shifts

Patient Population / Clinical Experience

• Adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old
• Common diagnoses include:

  • Respiratory failure
  • ARDS
  • MODS
  • Sepsis
  • Stroke
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Renal failure
  • General surgery
  • Psych/OD
  • GI bleeds
  • Cancer-specific surgeries
• Unit uses and/or trains on:

  • CVPs
  • A-lines
  • Swans
  • EV-1000
  • ICP monitoring
  • Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol
  • Bell Mont rapid transfuser

Scheduling

• Shifts: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630
• Schedule is made by manager based on unit needs
• Weekend requirement: every other
• Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other, as needed based on unit needs

Additional Notes

• Interview with unit leaders
• Pass/fail open-book exam during orientation; 90% required to pass
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
• RTO must be provided upfront; no additional RTO will be approved
• Fast-paced unit with volume flexes
• Team-oriented environment with collaboration with attendings and student providers
