Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D Nights)

Location: Watsonville, California Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Night, 3x12 hours (19:15 to 06:45) Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Labor and Delivery experience (2 years)
• Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
• Post Partum experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• AWHONN Advanced
• FHM
• NRP

Assignment Details

• L&D nurses also routinely care for Post Partum patients. Post Partum has an average census of 6+ couplets per day.
• L&D and Post Partum are part of the same unit.
• Call and floating are required. Floating to Post Partum is included.
• Weekends: every other weekend is required, with additional weekend shifts as needed to support unit staffing. Possibly every weekend.
• Call-off policy: 3 call-offs per 13-week assignment at no cost.
• RTO must be submitted up front.

Unit Overview

• Patient care: Vaginal and C-section deliveries, TOLAC, IOL, D&C, QBL, transports to HLOC, SUD, unhoused patients, active triage, and community-focused care
• Common diagnoses: Gestational hypertension/preeclampsia, diabetes, PROM/PPROM, fetal intolerance of labor/fetal distress, and PPH
• Skills: Labor and delivery, LDRP, mother/baby care, EFM and fetal monitoring, Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, epidural care, neonatal resuscitation, and postpartum care

Onboarding Requirements (Before Start)

• Background and eligibility: Background check within 1 year of start, EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks before facility start, and a valid government-issued photo ID
• Health and immunizations: Physical exam statement within the last 12 months, TB screening (QuantiFERON or T-SPOT within 90 days, or a 2-step TST), TB questionnaire annually, Tdap, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, varicella, and a fit test (3M N95 1860 regular or small)
• Flu vaccine: Flu vaccine or declination form before start during flu season. Candidates who decline must wear a mask in patient care areas from November 1 through March 31.
• Drug screen: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, with a copy of the lab results (attestations not accepted)
• Competencies: Medication/pharmacology competency exam, color blind test within 12 months of start, competency exam, and skills checklist
• Paperwork: 2 professional references within 3 years of hire, an employment application covering 7 years of employment (with explanations for gaps over 30 days), and facility-specific forms and policies, including a facility job description, completed before start
