Registered Nurse - Step Down

Overview

• Location: Longview, Texas
• Setting: LTACH (long-term acute care hospital)
• Employment type: Travel/Contract
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:00)
• Hours: 12 per day, 36 per week
• Reason for opening: Backfill

Assignment Details

• Specialty: ICU / MS patient flow, with ICU and IMC level care
• Patient ratio: Up to 1:5 at highest
• Weekend schedule: Every other weekend (EOW)
• First-time travelers: Allowed

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Texas
• Stepdown experience (2 years)
• Stepdown experience within the last year
• ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or United States Department of Defense
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or United States Department of Defense
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing

Additional Certifications (As Required)

• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), from ARC, AHA, or United States Department of Defense only
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Background and Documentation

• Identity and work authorization: Government-issued photo ID, carried on person during shifts; E-Verify proof or attestation
• Criminal background check: 7-year check, run for all locations lived or worked in the past 7 years, including SS trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender registry, and FACIS Level 3. Updated annually.
• Exclusion checks: EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG, completed within 30 days of start and updated with each contract renewal or extension
• Facility access form: Required for all candidates

Health Requirements

• Physical exam: Physician statement within the last 12 months (not required annually)
• TB: Negative PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot within 1 year of start, updated annually. Positive PPD requires a chest X-ray within 5 years of start and an annual TB questionnaire. The TB questionnaire is accepted in lieu of TB testing for anyone who received a COVID-19 vaccine in the last 4 weeks.
• Immunity (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer. Candidates born before 1957 are exempt.
• Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
• Varicella: 2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox
• Drug screen: 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start. Instant drug screen is acceptable. A new screen is needed if the one on file expires during the contract.
• Influenza (2026-27 season): Vaccine or declination, collected on client request only

• Competency exams: Medication/pharmacology competency exam and competency exam, with passing score required (Angoff standard)
• Skills checklist: Required for the applicable unit, updated annually
• References: 2 professional references within 2 years of start
