RN - Med Surg/Tele, 2 West (Nights)

Overview

A hospital in Southern Arizona is seeking RNs for a 13-week assignment on the 2 West Med Surg/Tele unit. The unit has 90 double-occupancy beds.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Trauma Level I/II experience from recent hospital work

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Schedule and Scheduling Rules

• Shift hours: 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: typically 2 to 3 holidays
• On-call: low census on call
• No 48-hour guarantees
• No blocked scheduling requests
• No more than 5 days of RTO

Unit and Patient Care

• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6 on days, 1:6 on nights
• Patient mix: mostly medical, including pneumonia, COPD, radiation patients, and AKI, with occasional lap chole and appendectomy patients
• Drips: heparin and Lasix gtt, non-titrated
• Charge nurse: sometimes not assigned, but the RN may take an assignment if needed
• Nursing assistants: PCAs, 8 to 12 per person
• Respiratory equipment: BiPAP and stable tracheostomy patients
• Telemetry: a dedicated monitor tech prints strips. Nurses must sign off on the strips and verify the interpretation or identify rhythm changes.

• Med Surg
• Stable, low-acuity ICU patients
• Other designated units

Orientation

• One facility orientation
• One clinical education session
• One day on the floor
