Surgical Technologist, Operating Room

Overview

• Location: Gardner, Massachusetts

• Hours: 40 per week
• Shift: 6:30am - 5:00pm, with call

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) (0 years of experience)
• Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Physical Requirements

• Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and more than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects
• Frequently reaches, handles, and feels
• Occasionally stoops and kneels

Responsibilities

• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and team and assists with surgical procedures
• Sets up tables, instruments, and supplies for each type of surgery, and handles surgical instruments with dexterity throughout the procedure
• Selects and prepares supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for each procedure, and keeps surgical procedure cards current
• Applies aseptic practice, disinfection, sterilization, and environmental control principles to all procedures
• Opens sterile supplies aseptically after verifying sterilization exposure and package integrity
• Assists with skin preparation and draping of the patient and operative area
• Maintains the count of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse, and reports discrepancies per Operating Room policy
• Disposes of sharps from the sterile field and prepares specimens and cultures for lab analysis
• Helps maintain the cleanliness of the surgical suite to allow rapid room turnover
