Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Stepdown

Shift: 12-hour Nights (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

• Day Shift: 3:1
• Night Shift: 4-5:1

Job Description

• Provide nursing care for cardiovascular stepdown patients including pre/post Cath Lab and EP procedures, PACU recovery, cardiac surgery admissions, TAVR/LAAO recoveries, and cardiac observation patients.
• Manage cardiac drips (cardizem, amio, nitro, cardene), initiate and titrate heparin and oral cardiac medications (betapace/sotalol, beta-blockers, digoxin, etc.).
• Perform and interpret Telemetry and 12-lead EKGs (travelers must pass telemetry tests).
• Perform radial artery sheath removal, TR band management, arterial line management, cardioversions, and start IVs.
• Float to other cardiac, stepdown, or telemetry units within the campus, typically once a week on nights and less frequently on days.
• May be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching hospital setting.
• Work every other weekend and holiday.
• Follow a 40-mile radius rule; local candidates will not be accepted.
• No acceptance of 48-hour or blocked schedule requests.
• Scrub colors: red tops and black bottoms; no competing health system or agency logos allowed.
• Three call-ins may result in termination.

Required Qualifications

• Indiana RN license (single state).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in cardiovascular stepdown or related specialty.
• Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment (no new travelers).
• Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Charting experience with EPIC required; CUPID experience highly preferred.
• Required skills include IV starts, telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation, arterial line and TR band management, cardiac drip management, and post-procedure patient monitoring.

Additional Information

• Orientation offered weekly in July, then bi-weekly thereafter.
• GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation week; guaranteed set hours per week except during holidays when the unit is closed.
• COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required but subject to change.
