Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday
• Float Requirement:

  • First to float within skillset
  • Possible float to nearby campuses (8 to 11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
  • Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• On Call/Call Back: Not required
• Unit Size: 41 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-7
• Unit Environment: Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
• Dress Code: Scrubs without competing health system or agency logos
• Attendance Policy: Three call-ins can result in termination
• COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)

Patient Population

• High acuity Medical Surgical / Telemetry patients
• Cardiac-heavy cases including:

  • Atrial fibrillation with RVR, atrial fibrillation, flutter, heart blocks
  • Heart catheterization without interventions
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Sepsis
  • Behavioral health/CIWA
  • Post ablations
  • Dialysis patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Trauma level II experience
• Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation
• Ability to initiate and titrate drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, amino, etc.)
• PIV insertion
• Chest tube and indwelling drain management
• CBI management
• Antidysrhythmic medication knowledge (cardizem, tikosyn dosing, amio)
• Nephrostomy tube management
• Experience with Epic

Additional Information

• Orientation occurs bi-weekly starting 5/18
• Guaranteed hours may not apply during orientation week or holidays when the unit is closed
• The unit has excellent retention and experienced staff; contracts are needed due to upcoming FMLA coverage
