Cardiac Stepdown/MedSurg RN

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia Contract Length: 13 weeks Job Type: RN (Registered Nurse) Shift: Nights, 7pm to 7am, 12 hours per day, 48 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Any license hits must be disclosed at time of submission
• Stepdown and Med-Surg/Telemetry experience
• Must be able to titrate drips

Preferred Qualifications

• Cardiac experience

Unit and Patient Profile

• 32 beds total: 22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Stepdown 1:3; Floor 1:5 or 6
• Common diagnoses: cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, medicine and hospitalist (med-surg)
• Common titratable or set-rate drips: heparin, insulin, nitro, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amio, dobutamine
• Traveler works with floor patients

Staffing and Support

• Dedicated charge nurse on each shift; 3 house supervisors in the building at all times
• Goal is a free charge nurse, but depending on staffing, the charge nurse may carry 1 to 3 patients
• Clinical associates typically run at 1:16 overnight (2 associates) but are budgeted for 4 (1:8)
• Respiratory equipment: NC, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach to vent; dedicated RT for the 9th floor
• Telemetry techs sit in the tele rooms on two units and monitor and record tele strips (Phillips monitoring)
• Traveler is the first pulled off the unit if needed; rotational pull to the floor is typically 1 out of 3 shifts, tracked by pull logs kept by charge nurses

Scheduling

• Self-scheduling and block scheduling allowed
• Weekends: 3 to 4 Saturday and Sunday shifts, 2 Fridays, and 2 Mondays in a 4-week schedule period
• Holidays: one eve and one day for Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas, and New Year's
• No call or standby requirement
