Overview

• Shift: Night, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 to 07:30)
• Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week, with a holiday rotation and no weekends
• Unit: PCU, 32 beds
• Travelers: First-time travelers accepted

Responsibilities

• Charge nurse role managing a 32-bed PCU
• Serve as a resource for newer nurses
• Skills used: telemetry, cardiac telemetry, cardiac monitoring and emergency response, starting IVs, chest tubes, cardiac drips, bedside cardioversion
• Patient populations and conditions include COPD, CAD, CHF, AFib, sepsis, and COVID
• Dress code: navy scrubs

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience of 1 year, obtained within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or RQI
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience in charge roles
• Experience with Epic

Pre-Start Requirements

• Criminal background check within 12 months of start
• Negative drug screen within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 12 months of start, plus a TB questionnaire at start and annually
• Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption during flu season, with a hard deadline of 12/5
• Physical exam confirming good physical health, completed within 1 year of start
• Required immunization documentation (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella)
• OSHA respirator clearance and fit test, completed onsite during the first week of orientation
• Government-issued photo ID
• Passport-style badge photo: plain white or off-white background, shoulders up, JPEG format
• Signed confidentiality and security agreement, and standards of ethical conduct and policies
• Completion of facility modules for the unit by the compliance due date, with transcript on file

Orientation Requirements

• Glucometer assessment, signed by manager, preceptor, or charge nurse within 5 days of orientation
• Agency personnel orientation checklist, returned within the first week
