Registered Nurse: Ortho/Neuro MS/Tele RN

Shift and Schedule

• Shift: Night, 3x12 hours, 19:00 to 07:30
• Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: Required
• On-call: Not required
• Time Off: Pre-approved time off at the manager's discretion; requested time must be included at submission.
• Scrubs: Navy

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment (first-time travelers not accepted)
• Orthopedics experience
• BLS issued by American Heart Association (AHA only; AHA Provider, Instructor, and RQI accepted)
• NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS)
• Non-invasive airway management
• Peripheral line care and management
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Use of rapid response teams

Patient Population

• Age Groups: Adults and geriatrics
• Diagnoses: Stroke, TBI, seizures, trauma, orthopedic, wound, diabetes, psychiatric

Competency and Testing

• Medication calculation test required for all RNs
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required by profession
• Competency exam required by profession and specialty, completed within 2 years of start
• Advanced EKG/dysrhythmia competency exam required for listed units, including MS/Tele, completed before start
• Onsite pass/fail exam
• Color blind test, updated annually
• Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
• Annual internal evaluation (required if the clinician has worked with the agency for 1 year or more)

Onboarding Requirements

• Background and Compliance:

  • Background check within 1 year of start, updated annually, including 7-year county searches, SSN trace, nationwide sex offender search
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Emergency contact form
  • Employment application
  • Two professional references
• Health:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • N95 fit test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (any N95 mask accepted; no onsite fit testing)
  • Tdap within the last 10 years (declination allowed)
  • Negative TB test within 1 year, with annual TB questionnaire
  • Measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella immunity by positive titer or 2 vaccines, with declination options in some cases
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer
  • Flu vaccine required November 1 to April 30 (declination allowed)
  • COVID vaccination record preferred
• Drug Screen: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start, excluding marijuana panel. California restriction: urine marijuana testing is prohibited, and saliva testing may be required.
• Training:

  • Documentation system education module, about 8 hours, completed before start
  • HIPAA module, completed before the documentation system module
  • YouLearn modules
  • Review of drug and alcohol policy, hand hygiene policy, dress and appearance policy, discharge optimization, and care briefing before start
