Registered Nurse PCU

Location: Kansas City, Missouri Contract Length: 13 weeks Employment Type: Travel/Contract Shift: Day (3x12 hours), 6:45 to 19:15 Hours: 12 per day, 36 per week

Facility and Unit

• Tertiary care teaching hospital, Level 1 trauma center, 5-time Magnet recognized
• 456 total staffed beds
• PCU is a 24-bed intermediate unit that takes intermediate medical patients and surgery overflow (e.g., TURPS, lap chole, lap appy, lap hernia, eye surgery, oral surgery, diabetic teaching, wound care)
• Fast-paced unit, necessary for throughput out of the ED and OR
• Ratio: 1:5. On rare occasions the ratio may flex to 1:6, and travelers are expected to take the extra patient.
• Work settings: MS/Tele, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
• Scrub color: Navy
• Free parking

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience: 1 year, with experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• IV insulin protocols
• Feeding tube care and management
• Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) management
• IV insertion skills
• Accessing ports
• Blood product administration
• Experience with the care and management of invasive lines
• Heparin protocols
• PCA (patient-controlled analgesia)

Schedule and Assignment Details

• Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks. Cancelled shifts must be the regular shift length.
• Weekend requirement: 8 weekend shifts in the 6-week schedule period, a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments: As needed per unit
• On-call: Not required
• Block schedule: Not accommodated
• Floating: Regular floating within scope may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed.
• Return to office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days

Eligibility Restrictions

• Does not accept first-time travelers
• Does not accept pending licenses
• Does not accept local candidates. Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility.
