ICU Registered Nurse

Location: Metairie, Louisiana Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Night, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30) Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Clinical Assignment

• Staffing ratio: 1:2, sometimes flexes to 1:3
• Float scope: Will float to all ICUs. May float to the ED or PACU to care for ICU patients in those areas. May occasionally float to MS/PCU units with 1:4 patient ratios.
• Weekends: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Call: Not required
• Duties: Nurses perform all lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts.
• Equipment: Alaris IV pumps, CADD PCA pumps, Servo I ventilators, Fresenius CRRT dialysis machines, cardiac monitors, Medtronic EVD management systems, Arctic Sun TMS, GE monitors, Hill-Rom beds, Pyxis medication station, Veratron bladder scanner
• COVID-19: Patients with COVID-19 may still be present. All nurses are expected to care for isolation patients and must know their N95 mask size.
• RTO: Limited to 5 days total

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• Critical Care Float experience: 2 years required, including experience within the last year
• ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic

Onboarding and Health Requirements

• Background and eligibility: Background check within 30 days of start covering the past 7 years, updated annually; EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Identity and employment: Government-issued photo ID matching all documentation; E-Verify (I-9) required
• Drug testing: Required within 30 days of start (panel includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, methadone, methamphetaminess, opiates, oxycodone, and phencyclidine)
• Employment application: 7 years of work history, with no gap longer than 30 days
• Physical exam: Within 12 months of start; not required annually
• TB screening: Either a QuantiFERON (Qgold) or T-SPOT test, or a two-step TB skin test, within 3 months of start. Past positive results require a chest X-ray within 5 years of start and an annual TB questionnaire. A TB questionnaire is required annually for all candidates.
• Immunizations:

  • Tdap within 10 years
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or a positive titer
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or a positive titer
  • Hepatitis B: series, titer, or signed declination within 12 months of start
  • Flu vaccination or documentation required October 1 through March 31; new starts from 10/1 must have documentation on file by 10/31. Mask required at all times for unvaccinated candidates.
